A gunman jumped out of a car in Queens, killing one pedestrian and wounding another. Now, police are sharing surveillance video, hoping to crack the case. NY1's Clodagh McGowan has the exclusive story in the following Crime Stoppers report.
It's just before 4 a.m. on March 29. As Chad Baldeo, 23, leaves Club Dubai and walks across Merrick Boulevard, a night of fun ends in violence.
"The victim had been walking with a group of people, and as he left that group of people to cross the street, that's when the shooting incident occurs," NYPD Detective Daniel Gallagher said.
A car pulls up. The passenger scrambles out of the vehicle and fires about 17 rounds, hitting Baldeo four times in the abdomen, chest, and back. He later died at Jamaica Hospital.
"The whole family is very upset. His sister has taken it especially hard," Gallagher said. "We'd like to do right by the family and find out who did this."
Gallagher is on the case for the 113th Precinct Detective squad. He said police have some leads, but not enough to make an arrest.
The NYPD gave NY1 a first look at a video, seen above, which shows Baldeo exiting the club and the suspect's car — believed to be a black Mercedes-Benz — driving away.
Gallagher said there were multiple eyewitnesses on Merrick Boulevard at the time of the shooting. Now, he hopes someone will recognize the car and come forward.
"There were a lot of people out and a lot of people at the club that night," Gallagher said. "Hopefully, someone saw something."
Police believe the gunman specifically targeted Baldeo. A second man, believed to be a bystander, was shot in the left ankle.
