The NYPD welcomes its latest class of officers at Madison Square Garden.
Among this year's graduates — a Tibetan refugee, the daughter of a cop who died on September 11th and a cousin of the officer who inspired the Zadroga Act.
That's the legislation that provides health care to workers who got sick after 9/11.
About 20% of this year's graduates are women.
Mayor Bill de Blasio was there to celebrate their achievement.
"Officers, you just gained a whole 'nother family," the mayor said. "The family you came here with today will stand by you for years and years ahead, but today you also gained a family in blue. A family you'll see is filled with support and love and solidarity. A family that believes in each other."
As the ceremony wound down, one couple celebrated something else entirely.
Newly-minted officer Philip Santana proposed to his girlfriend, now fiancé, Jennifer Guzman.
They were joined by Santana's infant son, Alexander.
