Girls in some dens in the country will soon be able to call themselves Cub Scouts.

Starting next year, Cub Scout dens, which are the smallest groups, will be either all boys or all girls.

Larger Cub Scout packs will be allowed to remain single gender or mixed.

Another program set to start in 2019, will let older girls become Eagle Scouts, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America.

This comes a few months after the Girl Scouts accused the organization of trying to covertly recruit girls into their programs while disparaging Girl Scouts operations.

The Boy Scouts of America said the decision was made to give parents and their kids more options.

Both organizations are over a century old and have seen a big drop in membership numbers in recent years.
