NEW YORK - Family and friends came together Wednesday to honor hero NYPD detective Steven McDonald.
A sign that reads "Detective Steven McDonald Way" now appears at 86th Street and Transverse Road outside the Central Park Precinct.
The station house holds special significance to the late detective.
It was back in 1986, when McDonald was paralyzed after being shot by a teenager while on duty there.
He publicly forgave his shooter and spent the rest of his life working for peace.
McDonald died in January, after being taken off life support following a heart attack.
He was 59 years old.
