NEW YORK - This is the last weekend lifeguards are on city beaches.
And for summers to come, there's news that the temporary extension to the pool and beach season is permanent starting next year.
The City Council passed a law to extend the season for good.
It used to end on Labor Day, but will now be a week longer.
Earlier this year, the City Council secured nearly $2 million in funding to keep city beaches and pools open for the week after Labor Day.
They allocated $687,000 to do the same thing last year.
