NORTH CAROLINA -- Known for introducing unusual foods at the State Fair, North Carolina will offer beer and wine sales in 2017.

The alcohol will be sold on a per ticket basis, in what spokesman Brian Long calls the fair's Old Heritage Circle.

It's an area he admits has not received a great deal of foot traffic in the past, but expects that to change with this new attraction.

"You take your ticket to one side of the building you can get beer, if you take that ticket to the other side you're choosing wine.  We hope to really showcase up to forty breweries and forty wineries during the fair,” said Brian Long, spokesman, North Carolina State Fair.

"I think it builds awareness of just the uniqueness of our state.  Like, one thing that's great, we have the mountains, the Piedmont/Triad, I mean the Piedmont, the beaches, there are just so many different unique things you can find like great beer and great wine,” said Owen Jordan, a Raleigh resident.

Fair officials confirm that only North Carolina beers and wine will be featured at the fair.

The State Fair kicks off on October 12 and runs through October 22.
