Kids in Flushing now have a newly-renovated, nature-themed park in which to play.
Officials cut the ribbon on improvements at Bowne Park Tuesday. The $1.5 million worth of improvements include a new tree-house jungle gym and turtle-themed spray showers to honor the wildlife in the nearby pond.
There are also fake woodland animals hidden throughout the playground.
“What we did in this playground by adding a theme to it, it reminds kids that even though you live in New York City, you're in a natural play area as well,” said Queens Parks Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski.
“The first time I came here after it was re-done, I said 'Wow. They really did a really good job,'” said Charlie Vallone, the son of City Council Member Paul Vallone, who attended the unveiling.
There are still more renovations to come. Officials plan to restore the pond to make it healthier for the animals that live there.
