The Bronx River Alliance is celebrating its new learning lab.
Ten years in the making, it is being constructed in Starlight Park near 174th Street.
The $13 million facility will allow the group room for an environmental lab and to store canoes and kayaks.
Plus, the building itself is green.
"This is literally going to be one of the greenest buildings I think," said Gregory Kiss, with Kiss and Cathcart Architects. "It's going to generate all of its energy from solar on the roof so it's completely clean. It's going to be a very efficient building. And what's most interesting about it, most innovative I think is the fact it's in a park, it's going to be part of the park.
"It's been a long time coming, but we're so excited now that it's in the final stages of construction and we hope it will be open later this year," said Maggie Greenfield, Executive Director of The Bronx River Alliance.
