There were no Trefoils or Thin Mints involved, but this story is still just as sweet.
The city is investing more than $1 million to expand a Girl Scout troop dedicated to homeless girls.
Troop 6000 was established in March by the city's Department of Homeless Services and Girl Scouts of Greater New York.
It's the first in the nation created solely for girls and women living in homeless shelters.
Thanks to the investment, the troop will expand from just one city shelter to about 15.
"People should know that we are equal," said one troop member. "Even though, even though we might live in a shelter, we're all equal."
"It's helped me in many ways," said Giselle Burgess, founder of Girl Scout Troop 6000. "The same way we want for the girls to have something to look forward to, it's given me that as well. I look forward to that on Fridays, even after a rough week, living where we're living, there's not really much to look up to except for hopefully getting out there. So those are my exciting days too with the girls, and helping them and having that sense of consistency myself, it does help."
The expansion will roll out over the next three years.
