KINGSTON, N.Y. -- A local fire department will be closing its doors next week.

The A.H. Wicks Engine and Truck Company in the city of Kingston will officially shut down on July 7th.

The Kingston Board of Fire Commissioners voted to close the five-member volunteer fire company at a recent meeting.

Kingston Mayor Steve Noble (D) says those members were asked to make a transfer request to another department.

The Mayor says the low number of volunteers just wasn't enough to have a sustainable organization.

"I think there are members of the community who you know really tried to keep it going but, you know with five active members left it's just unfortunately, it's just not enough to be sustainable," Noble said.

The fire company building is not owned by the city, but any city owned equipment will be returned.
