A Bronx boy celebrating his fifth birthday is now fighting for his life after being shot in the head.
Police say he was walking with his father just after 5 p.m. on Washington Avenue near East 167th Street when a man in his 20s started shooting at another man nearby.
The intended target was not hit, but police say the boy was shot in the head and rushed to the hospital.
Police say they're questioning a person of interest, but no arrests have been made.
"We're working to identify the suspect. We're combing through video and doing canvasses for witnesses in the area," said Assistant Chief Larry Nikunen of the NYPD.
"It's very disturbing, but this is not the first time it happened. This is ongoing on this block," said one person in the neighborhood. "There's never police presence over here whatsoever to protect none of us."
Police are still trying to figure out what led up to the shooting.
