Poughkeepsie Common Council members will vote Tuesday on a resolution to keep city buses funded through September 30.

The city approved a resolution to keep the buses funded through the end of the year earlier this year, but it was vetoed by Mayor Rob Rolison in April. Rolison said he plans to veto this resolution as well if passed. He said the county would do a better job and the city can’t afford its buses with a $13 million deficit.

Common Councilman Chris Petsas said he is worried that the four new county routes, that are scheduled to go into effect on July 1 after funding for city buses end, include long wait times and will leave some areas without coverage. He said the city's buses are ridden 300,000 to 400,000 times per year.

County Executive Marc Molinaro said the county will continue to get feedback from consultants and the community in order to make regular improvements to the bus routes. One of the changes the county says it will make, will be in the area of Delafield Street. Molinaro said he is aware that area is not covered, and it will be corrected by October 1.
