NEW YORK - June is New York Music Month, the first-ever celebration of the city’s music scene.
It will feature hundreds of events, including walking tours of iconic music sites and free concerts across the five boroughs.
City officials say the month-long initiative highlights the contribution the music industry makes to the City's economic growth.
"The music ecosystem, the largest ecosystem in the country is right here in New York City. Musicians can stay, they can record, they can work here, they can perform here. Last year alone, 5.4 million tickets were sold in New York City to live music venues. that’s more than Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco combine," said NYC Office of Media and Entertainment Commissioner Julie Menin.
To support artists, the city is offering thousands of hours of free rehearsal space and workshops on how to get into the music industry.
