Ten years after P.S. 22 Chorus Director Gregg Breinberg posted the first video of his fifth graders singing hit songs, he says the covers have received more than 85 million views.  In previous years, their popularity had them singing at the Oscars and the 2012 Presidential Inauguration.  NY1's Lisa Voyticki reports.

Fresh off a performance at Radio City Music Hall, the famous fifth graders are practicing for a fundraiser next week on Wall Street..

The P.S. 22 Chorus's rendition of Sia's "The Greatest" is the latest cover to go viral.

Ten years ago, choral director Gregg Breinberg made the first internet post.  Since then, he says they’ve received more than 85 million views.

"This is showing the world that average ordinary kids are capable of the most extraordinary extraordinary results if you push them hard enough," said Breinberg.

They learn by listening.  Each year 65 new students at the Graniteville school are chosen, but the spirit remains the same.

"Singing is my passion and I really enjoy being here with my friends and with my chorus director," said chorus member Alyna Muniz.

"We all stick together no matter what and we're all like family," said  chorus member Christian Sellers.

This year, the group performed at Radio City Music Hall.

They meet twice a week for 2 hour practices.

Over the years, singers like Carrie Underwood and Fifth Harmony, have visited, sometimes bringing them to tears.

"It's hard for me to get chills and it's hard for me to start crying when people sing," said one member of Fifth Harmony in a video posted by Breinberg from a few years ago.

While many celebrities have sung their praises, it's the practices that have changed the students lives .

"I was really shy and I couldn't express who I was but as I was in the chorus I learned to express my feelings so I learned to express myself," said  chorus member Heather Canteer.

"I've kinda grown to speak more, I've grown to stand up for myself,"  said chorus member Nadine Ruiz.

Breinberg has seen many who have difficult lives do a 180.

"Attendance is crucial and they start coming to school," said Breinberg.

"I just see Mr. B and it just makes me smile because I know I'll have a good day today," said  chorus member Toni Rose Gbargaye.

Breinberg is working on a new cover for the group that he'll post of a song by Ed Sheeran later this month.

He says the biggest reward is raising awareness about the importance of music education.
