There was a lot of pomp and circumstance in Brooklyn Wednesday as the newest members of the Emergency Service Unit became department graduates.
Fifty-two members made up the graduating class of highly trained officers.
Before the ceremony, the personnel put on a demonstration of some of the skills they learned during their intense eight-month training period.
For many of the graduates, the day took on a very special meaning.
Many of the officers are following in their family's footsteps, including one officer who lost his father to a September 11th-related illness.
"We lost him in 2012, and being here today and knowing that I'm making him proud, following in his footsteps. The Emergency Service Unit does a lot of things, a ton of rescue things in terms in what of rescue service does as well, so I know my father would be proud of me," said NYPD ESU officer Robert Sullivan.
Other graduates included those from the Port Authority and MTA police.
