If you're looking for a new book to dive into, the city has a suggestion for you.
As revealed first on NY1 Thursday morning, "Americanah" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche is the winner of the first-ever "One Book, One New York" contest.
The 2014 novel focuses on a Nigerian woman dealing with immigration and racial issues in the U.S.
Five books were chosen to take part in the contest, which was aimed at getting all New Yorkers to read the same book together.
Fifty-thousand votes were cast.
"We love the public voting component of it. I think we're the only city that's had something like that to engage New Yorkers in the voting process. We had five incredible selections and then to see the outpouring for this particular book, for "Americanah", and I think it really is a testament to what the city is interested in, in this political climate to make sure we're having these important discussions around race and around immigration," said Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment Julie Menin.
A number public events are planned around "Americanah" over the next few months, including celebrity readings, book groups and film screenings.
