The NYPD is investigating one of its own for his alleged ties to a mob family.
Officials say they are looking into whether Assistant Chief Edward Delatorre bought properties connected to Bonnano crime-family boss Vincent Basciano.
The announcement comes after a WNYC Radio report Monday that said one of four sites bought by Delatorre is a Bronx lot where the Mafia used to hold induction ceremonies.
Police Commissioner James O'Neill confirmed the story at an unrelated news conference.
"And based on that, I think we knew about it a little bit beforehand," O'Neill said. "We had a discussion with Joe Reznick, our deputy commissioner of internal affairs, and we opened up an investigation."
The WNYC report says Delatorre purchased the mob-connected properties after federal agents cracked down on the Bonanno crime family in the late 2000s.
At one point, it says the mob owed Delatorre's wife $650,000 after a set of transcations.
