Governor Andrew Cuomo is promising to sort out the traffic mess around LaGuardia Airport as it undergoes a major overhaul.
The governor says he's bringing in a team of logistics experts to find ways to reduce traffic on the Grand Central Parkway.
The ongoing construction and a high number of travelers combined with last week's snowstorm caused major backups over the weekend, and forced some people to walk along the highway to get to the airport.
Cuomo says adjustments will be made for the upcoming President's Day weekend, including a relocated taxi pickup stand and free Q70 bus service to the airport from now until Tuesday.
"You have this tremendous traffic flow which we've never had before. Plus the volume, plus the operations, plus the construction. And we're going to need to reconfigure fundamentally how we do business there," Cuomo said.
Construction on the new LaGuarida is expected to take four years.
