SAN ANTONIO -- Design plans for San Antonio Independent School District’s first tech and business high school were unveiled Tuesday.

School and business leaders showed off the progress at the new school located downtown at the Fox Tech campus.

The high school, named CAST Tech, will focus on preparing students for careers in the fields of technology, entrepreneurship, and more.

“Our schools specializes in information technology fields: cyber, gaming, coding, programming, and on the business side we do banking, and finance,” said CAST Tech Principal Kelly Flieger.

The new state-of-the-art facility will have a unique look with classrooms set as open spaces containing multiple learning stations equipped with the latest technology.

“The classrooms will not look like what you're accustomed to. The furnishings are different. The space is different,” said H-E-B Senior Vice President of Strategic Design Bill Triplett.

The in-district charter school will also give the students a chance to earn up to 30 hours of college credit.

“The whole plan of this school is a lab school. We’ll have actually teachers that are being trained in these practices, so that we can actually expand these programs across our district,” said SAISD Superintendent Pedro Martinez.
