NEW YORK - With the opening of the Second Avenue Subway now behind him, Tom Prendergast is ending his run as MTA chairman and CEO.
He oversaw the project since Governor Andrew Cuomo appointed him as chairman in 2013.
In announcing his retirement, Prendergast said he was proud to have been part of such a historic moment this weekend.
He says the Second Avenue Subway shows the public the MTA can meet the deadlines they set for themselves.
Prendergast is a well regarded transit veteran who has spent most of his four-decade career at the MTA.
Before becoming MTA chairman, he headed the Long Island Rail Road and New York City Transit.
