A group of veterans bring some extra holiday cheer to Staten Island University Hospital's South Site.

The Staten Island Marine Corp League made a five thousand dollar donation to the hospital Friday.

The money will be put towards a new pediatric wing of the emergency room.

After the check was presented, holiday carols were sung and the Christmas tree was lit.

Those in attendance say this yearly event brings the community together.

"It just lifts up the morale, its brings us together as a family, because we all are one big extended family," said Hospital Executive Director Nicholas Caruselle.

"Marines on Staten Island raising funds and bringing it to the needs of the community, to me its very very important," said Veteran Jack King.

Hospital officials say they hope to begin construction on the new wing of the E-R in the first quarter of the new year.
