Imagine surviving winter in the city without a good pair of shoes to wear. That is the reality for many New Yorkers in need, and one charitable organization is looking to make a change.
Cherished Feet has distributed more than 25,000 shoes across America and around the world.
Wednesday, the nonprofit gave shoes to residents at the Samaritan Village Young Mother's program on the Upper West Side.
Organizers say a good pair of shoes can make a tremendous difference in a person's life.
"A lot of our homeless community, they're always looking for work shoes," says Karen Koeningsberg, founder and president of Cherished Feet. "A lot of them do want to get back into the workforce. They do want to get back out there and work. So it's very important for us to also have dress shoes."
Cherished Feet accepts donations of shoes, either in new or excellent condition.
