If you need another reason to celebrate, here you go: it's the Solstice!
The Winter Solstice, which officially occurred at 2:44 a.m. (PST), marks the official beginning of astronomical or "calendar" winter and also marks the shortest day of the year by daylight minutes.
It's the day of the year where the sun is the lowest in the sky, all due to the tilt of the earth in relation to the sun.
After today, the sun will appear higher in the sky (easiest to tell if you look around noon) and days will grow increasingly longer again.
