Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio are reassuring New Yorkers their rights will be protected under Donald Trump's presidency.
In an open letter in the Daily News, the governor encouraged Americans to honor the results of the election, but said people should reject Trump's divisive positions.
Cuomo promised to do his part to push the Democratic agenda and continue to pass laws to combat climate change, strengthen gun control laws and protect reproductive rights.
Meanwhile, Mayor de Blasio issued a statement as part of his re-election bid.
He acknowledged concerns about Trump taking office, but said he will stand up to attempts to reverse progress like taking away healthcare and deporting immigrants.
