It's Primary Day in the city and two of the most closely watched races are in Manhattan.
State Senator Adriano Espaillat is leaving his seat in the 31st District in Upper Manhattan to run for Congressman Charlie Rangel's seat in Washington.
Four candidates are looking to replace Espaillat.
They are former City Councilman Robert Jackson; Micah Lasher, who's a former aide to State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman; activist Luis Tejada; and Espaillat's hand-picked candidate, Marisol Alcantara.
On the Lower East Side, six candidates are vying for the 65th Assembly District seat that Sheldon Silver held for 40 years before he was convicted on federal corruption charges.
The candidates are Alice Cancel, who won a special election to fill the seat in April; Paul Newell; Don Lee, Gigi K. Li, Jenifer Rajkumar, and Yuh-Line Niou.
The only Republican primary in the city is on Staten Island, where incumbent Ronald Castorina is facing a challenge from Janine Materna in the 62nd Assembly District.
The polls are open from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m.
