Nearly 150 pilots are flying on Governor's Island this weekend, and they are doing it without even leaving the ground.
The U.S. National Drone Racing Championships are on Friday through Sunday.
Competitors will fly the remote-controlled gadgets as they compete in freestyle and team categories.
Pilots wear goggles that give them a cockpit camera view of their drones.
"Once you get put in those goggles and you feel what we feel, it's just immersive and the adrenaline rush is crazy,” drone pilot Steve Zoumas says. “People got to try it because then they can see what we feel. It's just a great sport, and it's got a lot of potential behind it."
