CAMILLUS, N.Y. -- Camillus police released the name of the 18-year-old who died after a motorcycle crash not far from the state fairgrounds.
Jared Rogers of Baldwinsville crashed along State Route 695 near the intersection of Gerelock Road in Camillus.
It happened around 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Police say Rogers was headed northbound when he lost control, crossed the median, went through the other side of the highway and slammed into an embankment.
He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
Some people within the Baldwinsville school district say they were sad to hear the news.
"He was a great kid, he was well liked by the kids, and the community here is very strong and we're very supportive," said David Sebast, Baldwinsville social studies teacher.
"He was a really good guy, everyone loved him, and I think all of B-ville is so affected by this and everyone is just so upset," said Amanda Ingerson, Baldwinsville High School student. "I know when me and my friends heard, that we were just devastated because you just don't need to know him to know how good of a guy he was."
The crash is still under investigation.
Anyone who witnessed it is asked to call police at 315-487-0102.
