Some people in Long Island City won't be able to catch the fireworks at their local park.
Signs posted around 'Hunter's Point South Park' say it will be closed for a private event so people who live nearby won't be allowed in. Signs also say nearby streets will not be available for parking.
People who live and work in the area say it's unfortunate especially because they say it's a great spot to catch the fireworks given the clear view of the Manhattan skyline.
"This is like the best spot, it's going to be right here, and to like cut that off - an opportunity - yeah it's pretty unfair," said Damien Shillingford who Works in LIC.
"I can see if they want to close a portion of it for a private event, but not the whole park. You know there's a lot of people with kids around here and it would be nice for them to come-- instead now they have to stay across the street," said Gerry Perotta an LIC Resident.
NY1 found out why the park is closed to the public.
According to Orlando Veras, the Director National Media Relations for Macy's, it will serve as the "central Fireworks Command Center."
"At this site our team along with various city, state and federal agency partners will oversee the launch and execution of the display. In addition, the site serves as the staging area for the national television broadcast of Macy's 4th of July Fireworks. As we did last year, this location will be at Hunter's Point South Park in Long Island City," said Veras.
"The guests in attendance will serve as the television audience for the broadcast. These invited guests include Macy's employees and their friends and family, show partners, dignitaries and media. In addition, the location is also the hub for working press that will be covering the show for television newscasts," he continued.
He went on to say, "Macy's Fireworks cover over 2 miles of the skyline reaching heights of 1000 feet, with public viewing set aside in three boroughs accommodating more than 3 million spectators. Those areas for general public viewing are outlined on our website at macys.com/fireworks."
