Police are investigating after a suspected burglar was shot by police in Brooklyn early Monday evening while another suspect apparently ran away from the scene.
The NYPD says officers answered a call of a burglary in progress at a building on 78th Street near Stillwell Avenue in Bensonhurst around 7 p.m.
A man climbed out of a third-floor window, went down the fire escape, and eventually came face-to-face with officers.
"After scaling the fence onto Stillwell Avenue the suspect was confronted by a uniformed sergeant. The suspect pointed a revolver at the sergeant. Both the sergeant and another uniformed police officer discharged their service weapons. The male subject was shot twice. He was transported to Coney Island [Hospital] where he was pronounced dead," said NYPD Chief of Department James O'Neill.
Officials recovered a gun at the scene.

There were eight people inside the building at the time.

Police are now searching for a second man who residents say fled the scene just before cops arrived.
They say he may have been wearing a yellow construction hat at the time of the burglary.
