Once at risk of shutting its doors permanently a nearly 90-year-old Forest Hills movie theater is now getting makeover.

Cinemart Cinemas on Metropolitan Avenue held a grand re-opening last week and is undergoing renovations, adding new luxury leather recliners to their theaters.

There will also be a new concession stand.

The five theater complex was at risk of closing earlier this year when it couldn't screen new films.

But after NY1 did a story about the theater owner Nicolas Nicolaou says he was able to convince more film companies to give him access to first run films.

Now that it's out of the dark, he wants Cinemart to be in "tip-top shape" for its upcoming milestone birthday.

"It's been around for several generations and what we're doing will ensure the next generations will bring their children, their grandchildren to the same theater they once went as children." said Nicolaou

Because of all the new features, ticket prices increased to $10.
