CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – UNC-Chapel Hill held its annual spring commencement Sunday.

More than 6,000 graduates turned their tassels and received undergraduate and graduate degrees.

As 35,000 people looked on, the 2016 graduation had nationally known author and educator Anne Marie Slaughter as the commencement speaker.

Graduates said this day was long time in the making.

“It is incredible. This is the greatest day of my four years,” said Ben Smart. “I'm so happy to have made it.”

This is the first time since the year 2000 that all degree candidates were welcomed on the field at Kenan Stadium for spring commencement.
