PALMDALE, Calif. -- A former Palmdale Unified School District assistant superintendent will spend 270 days in a Los Angeles County jail after pleading no contest to animal abuse charges.

Pauline Winbush, 53, and her live-in boyfriend, Kevin Williams, 52, were sentenced Thursday in a Lancaster courtroom.

In April, both pleaded no contest to one felony count of animal abuse after 19 pit bulls taken from their home had to be put down.

On Oct. 20 2014, Animal Control officers searched their Antelope Acres home after horses were found roaming the streets.

Officers said they found dogs kept inside crates that showed signs of being used for dog fighting.

Other animals found on the property included a tortoise, snake and a box full of mice.

A third person involved in the case -- Rodney Scott -- is scheduled to be sentenced on April 5 of next year
