An NYPD inspector has been placed on modified duty in connection with a federal investigation into the department.
Officials say 55-year-old Peter DeBlasio - no relation to the mayor - was stripped of his gun and badge Wednesday and transferred to an administrative position, but it's not clear why.
The department also announced that Detective Michael Milici has been fired.
Last week, Milici filed retirement papers, but was suspended for failing to cooperate with the investigation.
This comes weeks after 44-year old Alex Lichtenstein was arrested on bribery and conspiracy charges.
Investigators say Lichtenstein offered officers thousands of dollars to help him get gun licenses for customers who wouldn't otherwise qualify for them.
Authorities say he used his connections in the NYPD to obtain more than 150 gun licenses.
Three NYPD officials were also reassigned in connection with the gun license investigation.
