With temperatures hitting 80 degrees Thursday, it was the perfect occasion for thousands of Cornell students to hit the slope. For upperclassmen, Slope Day is one of the best days of the school year.
"It's a really great chance to hang out with your friends one last time before finals, before the end of the year activities," said senior Will Isenberg.
Especially for graduating seniors.
"But at the same time it's a little sentimental, because I know it is my last Slope Day, and I'm going to miss everybody," senior Zachary Palomino said.
Freshmen were just as excited to participate in the festivities for the first time.
"We're all really stressed," freshman Jacob Markin said. "This counts as one of our study days, which I think is hilarious, but I think it's a great mood boost."
Cornell did try one new thing this year that became a hit with many students: free breakfasts, sponsored by the school.
"They were all amazing. I've eaten a lot of really nice free food," Markin said.
Besides the various activities atop the Slope, music is a big part of the day. Rock band Walk the Moon headlined the event.
"You can be really close to the concert [or] you can be far away, so there are opportunities for anyone to come and enjoy," said freshman Barron Williams.
It provides a way for the entire campus community to come together before heading their separate ways. Cornell increased security for Slope Day following unsubstantiated threats that surfaced earlier this week. Students said they felt safe during the festivities.
