CHILI, N.Y. -- Donald Trump drove his point home in front of a crowd of more than 6,000 at a Rochester airport hangar. Trump hammered his opponents, calling Hilary Clinton "horrible" and Ted Cruz "a liar." On taxes, Trump says he'll cut them.
"We cut the taxes way way down for middle income people because the middle income has been forgotten in this country," Trump said. "It's been forgotten."
Trump also criticized the current primary system, which he calls "corrupt."
"Think of this," Trump said. "I watch Bernie. He wins, he wins, and they say he doesn't have a chance. Why doesn't he have a chance? Because the system is corrupt. And it's worse on the Republican side."
In an interview before the event, Trump told Time Warner Cable News he'd eliminate trade deals like TPP and NAFTA, which he says are a disaster for places like Rochester.
"I got some numbers before I left, and I've known Rochester over the years," he said. "I have friends that live here and they're wonderful people. They work hard and there's nothing for them. Everything's being taken out."
Many of Trump's campaign themes were familiar; singling out a handful of protestors, taking shots at the media. Some of the biggest cheers came when he said he'd repeal Obamacare and do away with Common Core.
"We're gonna get it straightened out folks," he said. "It's not even gonna be that hard, believe me. It's gonna go quickly. A lot quicker than people think. They say he can't do that. Just watch. I'll show you."
Rally organizers say 23,000 people signed up for the event, in a venue that held less than a third of that. Local supporters in a movement, who didn't go home disappointed.
"The American Dream is dead," Trump said. "But I'm gonna make it bigger and better and stronger than ever before. We are going to make America great again. Thank you."
