Small business owners in the Rockaways can now take advantage of a new program that promises to revitalize their business.

Council Member Donovan Richards and Small Business Services Commissioner Gregg Bishop visited shops in downtown Far Rockaway Tuesday to raise awareness about the city's new Storefront Improvement Program.

Businesses have until March 28th to apply, and if chosen, the program will help pay up to 75% of what it will cost to redo the business' storefront. The project is meant to help revive the downtown business district and draw in shoppers.

“We want people to know that you don't have to be leery in this situation,” Richards said. “This is an actual program. Yes, it does sound too good to be true, but the city is making an unprecedented investment in downtown Far Rockaway to know that they should take advantage.”
