Today marks 10 years since the first tweet on Twitter.

Twitter officially began on this date in 2006 when co-founder Jack Dorsey tweeted, "just setting up my twttr." (Back then, it was spelled twttr.)

The website's spelling changed about a year later, when Twitter's official account sent its first tweet.

NY1 posted its first tweet on June 3, 2009 (back then, it was under the Twitter handle @ny1headlines).

Twitter now boasts over 320 million active users a month.

Some of the most popular users include President Barack Obama, Pope Francis and Katy Perry.
