Boxing and ping-pong converged Friday night for a good cause.
Fighters traded gloves for paddles in "Ping Pong Fight Night," a charity tournament to raise awareness for spinal cord research.
Boxing Champion Boyd Melson, who you saw profiled in a NY1 exclusive last week, hosted the charity event.
He was inspired to support spinal cord research by his ex-girlfriend, who was paralyzed in a pool accident when she was a child.
Melson says events like these are a great way to raise awareness for the cause.
"It's amazing what the collective nature of human beings can do when they assemble themselves around something pure at heart to try to defeat impossible," Melson said.
"To be able to take part in spinal research and to be a part of possibly being able to change many different lives, I'm thankful and I'm blessed and I'm honored to be here," said boxer Chris Galeano.
The event was part of a larger campaign called "Team Fight to Walk," co-founded by Melson.
