The Daily News will host its Golden Gloves boxing tournament Friday at Saint John's University, with all proceeds going to support the Doctor Theodore Atlas Foundation and Island families in need.
The nonprofit provides financial assistance for families in need, along with free boxing classes for hundreds of underprivileged children.
"When you're supporting these kids, you're supporting better people, because, believe it or not, people just think they get more muscular, they get faster with the hands, they're better able to defend themselves, but it's more that they get pride in themselves," said Teddy Atlas, the founder of the foundation.
