SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A local car dealership is helping a group of charities this holiday season including one from Syracuse. Central New York based David's Refuge is among five charities that are receiving donations this month from Romano Subaru as part of the Share the Love campaign.

This is all part of a national effort in which Subaru dealerships hope to donate $15 million to charities around the country. As part of that, when you purchase or lease a new vehicle at Romano Subaru in Syracuse $250 will go to one of five charities of your choice.

One of those charities, David's Refuge, provides parents with special need children or life threatening medical conditions a chance to relax.

The experience allows parents to enjoy a weekend getaway to be refreshed and restored in their role as caregivers.  Providing that service can be costly, that's why donations from purchased vehicles help significantly.

"They like the idea of being able to give back because they may have incentive for people who are looking to buy a new car because they like the idea of being able to give back, especially during the holidays. And, a lot of people like to pick David's Refuge because of the fact it's a local charity," said Elizabeth Martin, the Romano Subaru internet sales manager.

"Their goal is to raise enough donations that will actually serve thirty two different respite weekends for what we do which is sending parents who have special needs children out on respite time at local bed and breakfasts," said David's Refuge Development Director Kate Houck.

Romano Subaru in Syracuse has a goal of raising $13,000 for David's Refuge. Customers that purchase or lease new vehicles can also choose to donate to national campaigns of the ASPCA, Make a Wish, Meals on Wheels America, and the National Park Foundation.

The campaign will go on through January 2. And if you'd like to learn more about David's Refuge or or the "Share the Love" campaign, head to their websites.
