Hundreds of people gathered in Manhattan on Sunday for a walk and vigil to mark three years since the Sandy Hook school shooting in Connecticut and others affected by gun violence.

Monday marks three years since the deadly shooting.

The event was organized by groups including Moms Demand Action and the Everytown Survivor Network.

Those taking part wore orange to show solidarity with gun victims and their loved ones.

They also called on lawmakers to do more to curb gun violence around the country.

"It's a travesty. It's a public health crisis and it's something our legislators need to do something about. They need to listen to the people and not the gun lobby," said Wendy Szymanski of Moms Demand Action.

"They have to change the laws and do background checks and we're here to promote peace," said one participant.

Twenty children and six teachers were shot to death by a gunman at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012.

The gunman later killed himself.
