The city police department's horses have a brand new home.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Wednesday at the new Mounted Unit Facility on West 53rd Street.

The 26,000 square foot building includes 27 box stalls where horses will be watched 24 hours a day and an air filtering system to keep the smell inside.

"Rebuilding our police stations and command center reaffirms our commitment to our cops and our civilians and in turn reaffirms their commitment to driving down crime and protecting the city," said NYPD First Deputy Commissioner Ben Tucker.

"It's like going into a new house, you know. It's everything new, and keep it clean," said Mounted Unit Admiral Lieutenant Joni Marines.

"It's beneficial to the officers - our proximity to Times Square, our deployment, our times to respond out are less," added Mounted Unit Commanding Officer Barry Gelbman.

The NYPD mounted is made up of 52 horses and roughly 100 officers.
