Fans gathered in Central Park's Strawberry Fields to celebrate John Lennon's birthday. The former Beatle would have turned 75 on Friday.
Fans marked the occasion by singing his songs and calling for peace.
Another music legend was among those who came to pay their respects.
"It was a very extraordinary time for me. I knew John Lennon back in the day and so I respect his legacy and, very, very happy to be here," said Al Jardine of The Beach Boys.
"I came up from Atlanta to see New York City and celebrate John's life," said one fan.
"We laid out 75 white roses in honor of John Lennon's 75th birthday and it was for me one of the most beautiful moments of my life," said another.
Lennon was shot to death in Manhattan in December of 1980 at the age of 40.
Strawberry Fields, which is named after a Beatles song, was dedicated 30 years ago on what would have been his 45th birthday.
