A Manhattan Street is renamed for a late Dominican baseball star.

Family and friends came out to see the big reveal of Matty Alou Way, on the corner of Isham Street and Seaman Avenue, in Inwood.

Alou and his two brothers, Felipe and Jesus, were among the first Dominicans to play in the majors.

Matty was a two-time All-Star and won a World Series with the Oakland Athletics in 1972.

He also played briefly for the Yankees in 1973.

His daughter says the ceremony was a proud moment for more than just her family.

"His name here is not only his name, it represents all the Dominicans who live in this great city," said Matty’s daughter, Teresa Alou. "So I'm sure that they're all proud and happy for this.  We are recognizing not only the Alous, Matthew, Felipe and Jesus for their great contribution that they did in sports but yes also for being great role models for youngsters."

The Alous made history in 1963 with the San Francisco Giants, becoming the first three brothers to play in the same outfield in a major league game.

Matty Alou died in 2011, at age 72.
