A taxi driver is facing assault and criminal possession of stolen property charges after he allegedly beat up a passenger.
Police say 43-year-old Moussa Kaba chased 28-year-old Jahmila Carter when she tried to exit his cab Monday morning.
They say Kaba pushed her to the ground and kicked her in the face before driving off with her phone.
It happened a little before 4 a.m. near Chambers and Church streets.
"I was taking a yellow cab home. We got into like a, you know, a dispute, and I went to exit the cab and he came around and dragged me, pushed me to the ground, and that's where he assaulted me," Carter said. "I will never take a yellow cab again in my life. As a New Yorker, I felt like they were the safest cabs to take."
The Taxi and Limousine Commission says Kaba's license has been suspended.
Carter was taken to St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital, where she was treated for lacerations and swelling.
