Ahead of a major redevelopment, LaGuardia Airport looks to give travelers an improved experience with the opening of six new shops.

Representatives of MarketPlace Development helped cut the ribbon on an expanded shopping concourse Thursday. The airport retail partner has been working with the Port Authority to improve Terminal B – known as the Central Terminal – the largest in the airport.

Developers said the goal is to give travelers an easier accessibility to goods while at the airport.

“What we really want to do is make sure the passengers here at LaGuardia have a first-class experience that is on par with the experience they would have at any airport in the world, and we think we're doing that,” said Paul McGinn, President of MarketPlace Development.

Travelers we spoke with seemed to agree.

“I think it's a good idea, especially since we get here early now, so we'll have time to look around,” said passenger Georganne DelCanto.

Earlier this summer, Governor Cuomo announced a $4 billion LaGuardia redevelopment project. Officials said the shops will remain open during the airport's reconstruction.
