If your weekend plans include a trip downtown, you might want to set aside time to visit a new park in Greenwich Village.

The 16,000-square-foot space is located on a triangular lot between 12th Street, Greenwich and Seventh Avenues.

The park features an interactive fountain and granite amphitheater seats.

West Village residents say it's a great addition to the neighborhood.

"I jumped up and got dressed in seconds, you know, I wanted to see, I wanted to be one of the first people to sit in here and say, 'Oh, look at, the park is open.' I expect to be here a lot more," said one neighbor.

"Very, very thankful that this is here. It was pretty nasty-looking before they redid it, so it's going to be great for the neighborhood," said another.

"We really need a new park in the area. It's beautiful, it's just terrific," said another.

The park is open from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m., even though the city is still putting on the finishing touches.

It will also be home to an AIDS memorial, but there's no word yet on the unveiling date.
