One of the city's publicly-funded charter school systems is getting a multi-million dollar gift from a private donor.
Hedge fund manager John Paulson and his wife Jenny are giving $8.5 million dollars to Success Academy Charter Schools.
Paulson is a Queens native.
The money will be used to open more charter schools across the city.
This is one of the largest gifts Success Academy has received.
While the system gets public funding, it also raises millions on its own.
However, Success Academy Charter Schools share space with public schools and do not pay rent.
Critics say charters take away public money that could be used to help struggling schools.
