A fifth man has been charged for his alleged part in a Brooklyn based network that authorities say conspired to support the Islamic State group.

The Justice Department says Akmal Zakirov transferred 24-hundred dollars to one of his co-defendants to help pay for his trip to join the terrorist organization.

Officials say Zakirov conspired with another Islamic State supporter who was arrested in Florida to finance travel expenses.

Two other Brooklyn men were arrested in February while trying to travel to Istanbul, Turkey.

The investigation began when the US Attorney says another co-defendant posted threats against the United States on a Uzbek-language Islamic State propaganda website.

Zakirov's Attorney says his client is focused on the case ahead.

"He was nervous, anxious, but I think relatively calm after I met with him for a while and we discussed what will be happening as the case moves forward," said attorney Lee Ginsberg.

Zakirov has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison.
