A former resident at a homeless shelter in the Bronx has been indicted in the murder of the shelter's director.

The Bronx district attorney announced the grand jury indictment of 39-year-old West Spruill on second-degree murder, kidnapping and weapons charges.

Spruill entered a not guilty plea to all three charges.

Prosecutors say on April 27, Spruill kidnapped and killed Project Renewal director Ana Charle.

Police say Spruill grabbed Charle as she walked to her car and attempted to sexually assault her.

Officials say Charle was able to get away, but officials say Spruill chased her down and shot her three times.

Spruill was caught a short time later at a nearby gas station.
